nomadic artisan is a Kenyan slow fashion brand that makes one-of-a-kind clothing using African print Kitenge.
We only sell an amount that we can create, and each piece is made with love by our six tailors - Victorian, John, Eric, Tobias, Violet, and Ayumi - under the guidance of designer Ayumi. Not only do we not keep excess inventory, but we also carry out detailed checks at every step of the process, so we rarely have items that fail inspection. The brand and its company are run by an Afro-Japanese family that does what we can to create ethical, sustainable products right here in Kenya, East Africa.
nomadic artisan has two types of sales and purchase methods.
The first is Collection sales. Four times a year, for each season, we release new items for that season as well as new colors of popular past designs on our online store as a collection (ready-to-wear).
The second is Pre-order and Semi-custom order sales, which are also accepted four times a year, for each season. Prior to the sale of the seasonal collection, we announce new designs and start accepting pre-orders. At the same time, you will also be able to place semi-custom orders for past designs. (From Nairobi customers, we accept semi-custom orders all year around!)
Unlike collection sales, pre-order and semi-custom order sales allow you to choose your favorite design, fabric, and size. As for the pricing, pre-orders for the latest designs are at the regular price, and semi-custom orders will be charged an additional $10 to $20 for each item in addition to the regular price at the time of collection sale.
Selling only four times a year may be unusual for a fashion brand. However, in this era where mass production is mainstream and everything moves quickly, we are trying to create products that do not encourage excessive consumption and allow customers to purchase at their own timing when they come across something that they think "This is it". We hope to continue to be a brand that moves forward in a gentle rhythm to everyone and everything!
